ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) – Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced that the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found deceased in a vehicle early Wednesday.
“At this point, we’re waiting on an autopsy to determine a cause of death of the individual,” the sheriff said. “We’ll know more after we have a cause of death.”
Ravenell said that around 12:30 a.m. witnesses called 911 after discovering an unresponsive male seated in a vehicle parked at University Village, an apartment complex located across from South Carolina State University.
Witnesses said that earlier in the evening, they heard what they believed to be gunshots coming from nearby.
Ravenell said it is not confirmed if the two incidents of the unresponsive male and the alleged gunshots are related.
Investigators ask that if anyone has any information, they are asked to call the OCSO at 803-534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
