ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) Two suspects have been arrested on weapons and drug-related charges in Orangeburg.

According to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell James Berg, 36, of Ladson; and Angela Gunter, 40, of Moncks Corner, were each charged with possession of methamphetamine and unlawful carrying of a pistol.

On Tuesday, a deputy with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office was passing an Old Number Six Highway convenience store when he noticed a car and a motorcycle parked on the side of the business.

Berg initially said he was there for his stolen motorcycle that had been left there for him to recover. However, when asked if the store’s video camera would show him riding up on the bike, he changed his story.

A visibly nervous Gunter admitted there was a backpack in her vehicle that contained a quantity of methamphetamine and a handgun when questioned.

Both were taken into custody after the backpack was located found to contain the items mentioned by Gunter.

“A deputy’s checking on the well-being of a couple resulted in these arrests,” he said. “It just didn’t look right to him, so he investigated and discovered a weapon and a quantity of meth.”

Bond was set on both Gunter and Berg at $5,000 each during a hearing on Wednesday.
