Deputies searching for driver following morning pursuit on James Island

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – This morning, just after 2:00 a.m., a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation in the area of Halle Road and St. Johns Woods Parkway on Johns Island, according to Public Information Officer Roger Antonio with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle fled and the deputy pursued while assisting deputies deployed Stop Sticks, which the suspect vehicle drove over.  

The vehicle collided into a light pole at Maybank and Old Folly Road on James Island resulting in disabling the vehicle, Antonio stated.  The driver fled on foot, but deputies were able to detain the passenger. 

Deputies are investigating the whereabouts of the suspect driver.  No injuries were reported.  

The passenger, Hakeem Lamont Deangelo Vice, was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana for 2nd Offense.
