Charleston, S.C. (WCBD)- All week long we’re highlighting dirty jobs in the Lowcountry and how they help the community. Count On 2’s Temple Ricke met up with a crew from Palmetto Environmental Solutions to learn about mold remediation and how it can impact your health.
Removing mold will make a house healthier. Sales Associate Marc Myers explains, “I’ve had customers that have stopped using inhalers because we cleaned all the mold away and encapsulated the house. I’ve had other people say they feel wonderful and are no longer sneezing, coughing or sick”.
The process of mold remediation includes physically scrubbing the mold off and treating it with deterrent. Crews must wear personal protective equipment when dealing with mold to avoid illness and burns. Myers says certain types of mold can cause 3rd degree burns.
Once the mold is scrubbed off, Myers says the crawl space is put under negative pressure, “As the mold get disturbed and fogs up under the house, it’s getting vacuumed out and pushed away from the house so we don’t contaminate the inside”.
He cautions to be aware of mold growing in your kitchens and bathrooms and says that if you’re feeling sick, coughing, and sneezing, it may be time for an inspection. For more information, click here.
