ST. GEORGE, SC (WCBD) – Dorchester County has begun mailing annual property tax bills, according to Public Information Officer Tiffany Norton.

If residents do not receive their property tax bill by October 31, 2018 they are asked to contact the Auditor’s Office, at (843) 832-0118 or (843) 563-0118, to verify the mailing address on record.

All property tax payments are due by January 15, 2019, Norton stated.

Residents who have questions about the real property tax assessment ratio and/or appraisal values for real property should contact the Assessor’s Office at (843) 832-0162 or (843) 563-0162.

For the convenience of the residents, 4% Legal Residence Exemption Applications can now be submitted the website.

Residents who owned a watercraft on December 31, 2017, are responsible for paying the property tax for the watercraft, Norton added. All watercraft tax questions should be directed to Marcia Jackson in the Auditor’s Office at (843) 832-0127.

Property tax payments can be made online at DorchesterCountyTaxesOnline.com, in-person at both the St. George and Summerville Treasurer’s Offices, or by mail, using the return envelope, provided with the property tax bill.

To reduce transaction fees for online payments, the Treasurer’s Office is now accepting e-checks. The transaction fee for e-checks is $1.50, per transaction.

Homestead Exemption

The news release stated that residents who are sixty-five years of age or older as of December 31st of the previous tax year, or 100% totally and permanently disabled or legally blind, qualify for the Homestead Exemption.
