Auto parts manufacturer opens in Dorchester County; 230 new jobs expected to be generated

Dorchester County News

A new auto parts manufacturer opened its doors on Friday in Dorchester County.

Leaders with India-based Sundaram-Clayton and Governor Henry McMaster cut the ribbon at the company’s new plant, the first in the U.S., near the intersection of Highway 78 and S.C. Highway 27, near Ridgeville.

The company creates aluminum die-cast parts for several different global auto brands.

In the next five years, the facility is expected to generate 230 new jobs.

“This is our solution to the I-26 congestion,” said John Truluck, the director of Dorchester County Economic Development. “People should not have to get up in the morning and go somewhere else to find a job that they need. So, our role is to create as many jobs here as we can so that they can go to work here.”

Production at the plant is expected to ramp up over the next few months.
