SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy’s Training Council voted to unanimously suspend the law enforcement certification for a Lowcountry police officer charged with burglary.

Council made the move after the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nicolas Morella on burglary charges back in March of this year.

Deputies say he forced his way into a woman’s home on Cassandra Avenue. They say she armed herself and hid inside a closed with her child as they waiting for authorities to arrive.

Summerville Police, who first responded, called in the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office once they realized the case involved one of their officers.
