SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCBD) – A number of road closures can be expected again Wednesday as crews with Norfolk Southern work to replace a stretch of rails through Charleston and Dorchester counties.
These closures have been known to last longer than their anticipated times and have caused several traffic headaches for both morning and evening commuters.
Dorchester County’s public information officer, Tiffany Norton said the rail crew is ahead of schedule for work completed Tuesday.
As of 4:00 p.m., they had the crossing at Owens Drive closed, but should be reopened by 5:00 p.m.
Work will continue between Owens and Main Street Wednesday at 6:00 a.m.
Norton said they will tentatively close the Hickory Street crossing at 9:00 a.m. and will remain closed until final paving is complete.
Norfolk Southern crews estimate reopening Main Street between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and plan to reopen Cedar Street between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
The crossing at Hickory Street will tentatively be closed at 9:00 a.m. and remain closed until final paving is complete. They estimate the reopening to happen sometime between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
For now, crews plan to work through Maple Street and possibly Richardson Avenue & Industrial Wednesday. Those closing times are TBD.
