A new $100 million distribution center and warehousing park is on its way to Dorchester County.
Shipping and supply chain company DHL announced on Tuesday that it is building the center at the Winding Woods Commerce Park near the intersection of Highway 78 and Pecan Tree Toad, just outside of Saint George.
The investment is expected to create 450 new jobs.
Officials say it is one of the biggest economic development announcements in the county.
“To have 450 jobs and a $100 million dollar investment is really going to be a big deal especially in Saint George,” said John Truluck, Director of Dorchester County Economic Development.
The warehousing park will consist of three buildings with 1.7 million square feet of space. The first building is expected to be complete in early 2020.
DHL purchased 125 acres of the land at the commerce park, which will now be called the DHL Commerce Park. Dorchester County’s speculative building at the park is not part of the purchase and is still available for interested businesses.
