On Monday night, Dorchester County Council adopted its new strategic plan that lays out the county’s goals for the next three years.
The plan sets priorities for council members and staff to work toward.
Some strategies include identifying a source of funding for road repairs, putting in infrastructure to prepare for future development and more access to healthcare and education.
County Councilman Jay Byars said it is important to set up the plan so the county can achieve its goals.
“20 or 30 years ago you had councils that just flew by the seat of their pants and whatever came across the table they approved or didn’t approve. We actually have a vision for what we want this county to look like in the future, we have a strategy for executing that vision and that’s part of what this is all about,” said Councilman Byars.
Under the new plan, council members identified eight issues to be addressed over the next two to three years:
2. Economic Development
3. County Services
4. Growth management/zoning
7. Parks and Recreation
More information on the specific goals in the strategic plan can be found on the Dorchester County website.
