DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Dorchester County Parks and Recreation Departments invites the public to Explore the future Ashley River Park site from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 8.

The news release stated that this pet-friendly event offers event goers the opportunity to fish the 6-acre stocked pond and enjoy self-guided bird watching, nature viewing and hiking along with the riverside trail system. Fishing enthusiasts of all ages are also invited to participate in the “Get the Carp Outta Here!” fishing tournament with prizes for first, second and third place.

Dorchester County Councilman and Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman, Jay Byars said “The Ashley River Park site is an outdoor recreation gem. Having received positive feedback from the first Explore a Future Park Event, we are excited to give the public another opportunity to explore the grounds and give folks a sneak peek of what is to come.”

Admission to the site and all activities are free. However, tax-deductible donations to the nonprofit organization, Friends of Dorchester County Parks are encouraged and appreciated.

Public Information Officer Tiffany Norton stated that fishing licenses are not required to participate and there are no age or bait restrictions. Guests are responsible for bringing their own gear, bait and creature comforts. Outside food and non-alcoholic drinks are permitted.

Event parking is on a first-come-first-serve basis. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must register upon arrival. Event goers are encouraged to save time at check-in by completing the registration form and liability waiver in advance and bringing it with them.
