SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – A family is mourning the loss of their pet and home after an early morning house fire in Summerville.

Fire crews responded to a structure fire at 113 Kirksey Drive in the Barony Ridge subdivision around 4:00 a.m. Monday morning.

When crews arrived, they saw a single story, single family home fully engulfed.

According to Summerville’s public information officer, Mary Edwards, the family was able to make it out of the home safely, but their dog, unfortunately, died in the fire.

Firefighters with Summerville Fire & Rescue were able to get the flames under control within 30 minutes of arrival, Edwards said.

Dorchester County Fire-Rescue, Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services, and the Summerville Police Department assisted at the scene. South Carolina Electric & Gas secured the power to the residence.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
