Man charged with felony DUI following fatal vehicle collision on US-17

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol has responded to a two-vehicle fatal collision on US-17a near Summers Drive.

Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol stated that the crash happened around 12:15 a.m. Troopers stated that a 2016 Toyota Avalon was traveling north on U.S. 17a when they crossed over the center line and struck a Ford F250 pick up truck.

The Ford F250 ran off the road and struck a tree head-on resulting in the death of the driver. We’re told the driver of the 2016 Toyota Avalon was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Coroner Paul J. Brouthers identified Stephen Jerome Potts, 63, of Ridgeville who was struck by another vehicle while driving his pickup truck at approximately 12:15 a.m.

The driver of Toyota Avalon, Timothy Murray, 32, has been arrested for Felony Driving Under the Influence involving death.

The Dorchester County Sherrif’s Office says that Timothy Murray posted a $90,000 Cash/Surety bond Sunday afternoon and has been released from the Dorchester County Jail.
