SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCBD) – Police were dispatched to a popular Summerville restaurant this week in response to a reported burglary.

Upon arrival, officers met with a manager of Boxcar Betty’s who advised someone stole both cash drawers by prying them out of their mounting underneath the counter.

During the investigation, officers discovered a broken window along the northern wall of the building. The windowpane also had damage, and shattered glass was found on the ground beneath the frame.

Near the window, officers say they noticed several coins which appeared to have been dropped by the suspect during their exit back through the window.

The coins appeared to follow the trail which led towards the parking lot of the Wyndham Garden Hotel, according to an incident report.

Officers located possible fingerprints on the inside of a glass panel and on the back of a nearby chair, and a piece of glass which appeared to have dried blood.

The report states the burglar made off with an undisclosed amount of money which had been left inside the drawers from the previous shift.

Detectives are now reviewing security photos to possibly identify a suspect.

This incident comes just weeks after a series of burglaries which occurred at area restaurants over Christmas week.

Anyone with information is asked to call Summerville Police.
