SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities were dispatched to The Gates of Summerville apartments on Wednesday in reference to a shooting incident.

When officers arrived, they were approached by a victim who had been shot in the lower right leg below the kneecap.

Officers asked the victim, identified as Dasean Hughes, if he had seen the shooter but he stated all he could see was a person wearing a dark colored hoodie standing near the cut through between the F building and the wood line.

According to an incident report, Dasean stated he was dumping trash into the dumpster at the end of the parking lot when he heard a gunshot and fell down, but stated he did not see anybody else or any vehicles leave after being shot.

Dorchester County EMS arrived on scene and transported Dasean to Trident Medical Center for treatment.

A witness told officers he was walking his dog near the G building when he heard people screaming and went to see what the commotion was. He stated he saw Dasean’s mother, Ebony Ross, crying and screaming “he’s been shot”.

The witness reportedly went over to where Dasean was and placed his belt around his upper thigh to help with the bleeding.

Another witness said he was in his apartment when he heard a single gunshot. He told his girlfriend and child to get down on the floor. The witness told officers he looked out the window and saw people running towards the dumpster, so he walked out of his apartment and talked to Dsean’s mother who told him her son had been shot.

Officers utilized a K9 during a search of the area, but they were unable to locate any possible suspects.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the Summerville Police Department or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
