NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Dozens of foreign diplomats arrived in the Lowcountry over the weekend to get a taste of southern culture and to explore business opportunities.
The group of more than 30 foreign ambassadors represents countries on four different continent and will be in the area through Tuesday afternoon.
They’ll be making a number of stops across the tri-county area including Joint Base Charleston.
One of the big selling points is jobs. Joint Base Charleston helps support more than 68,000 workers and has an $11 billion dollar impact on the local economy.
According to a news release from the State Department, the group will check out one of the C-17 cargo planes and visit and explosive ordinance unit.
Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg and other leaders within the community will meet with the ambassadors later Monday afternoon.
Organizers want to highlight Charleston’s strength as a leader in aerospace, manufacturing and shipping industries.
They’ll be making a number of stops across the tri-county area, including Boeing’s North Charleston campus on Tuesday.
