Emergency crews respond to early morning structure fire at Madra Rua Irish Pub

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch Center received a 911 call at 3:54 a.m. this morning reporting a structure fire in the 1000 block of East Montague Avenue in North Charleston and St. Andrews Fire Departments responded to the call. 

The news release stated that the first arriving firefighters reported structure fire with heavy smoke and flames visible. 

North Charleston, Charleston, and St. Andrews Fire Departments responded, according to Deputy Chief Stephanie Julazadeh. Additional fire units were requested to support the firefighting operations. 

Firefighters worked to gain control of the fire in Madra Rua Irish Pub and an adjacent vacant commercial building with a residence on the second floor. A search was conducted in the vacant commercial building and an occupant on the second floor was rescued. In addition, two adjacent businesses are known as PAS Bookkeeping and Tax Prep was significantly damaged by fire. 

Red Cross is assisting one resident who was displaced because of damage to adjacent building utilities. No injuries were reported. 

An investigation into the cause of the fire is in progress.
