Two dead, one injured following multi-vehicle crash on US 17-A in Dorchester County

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Two people were killed and another injured during a multi-vehicle crash that happened early Friday morning in Dorchester County.

Lance Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened on U.S. 17-Alternate near Canaan Road – not far from Highway 61 – around 6:25 a.m.

The driver of a Ford pick-up truck, who was traveling north on US 17-A, collided with a southbound box truck, causing a chain reaction crash involving a southbound Nissan sedan and Nissan SUV.

Both the driver of the Ford truck and Nissan Sedan were killed in the crash. The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with injuries.

Trooper Pye said the driver of the big box truck was not injured.

The roadway was shut down for several hours and a detour was put into place.

The names of the victims have not yet been released. The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
