Family of 6 displaced after fire destroys home in historic part of Summerville

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCBD) – Crews were dispatched to a structure fire in Summerville late Tuesday evening.

Dispatch received the call around 10:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed a two-story single family residence with flames showing through the roof.

Crews were able to get the fire under control within about 30 minutes of arrival.

Central Avenue at Dorchester Avenue was closed for a period of time as crews worked to clear the flames.

Summerville’s public information officer, Mary Edwards said damage to the home was significant and is uninhabitable.

Edwards said the family of six are staying with friends and neighbors.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
