MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCBD) – Fire crews were dispatched to a reported vehicle fire off Rifle Range Road which caused extra traffic for commuters early Wednesday morning.

Crews with the Awendaw-McClellanville Fire District were dispatched to the scene just after 7:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, officials discovered a back hoe fully engulfed in flames on top of a mulch pile.

An official with the department said supply hose was connected to a nearby fire hydrant, which caused Rifle Range Road to be closed for a  period time.

They requested back-up from Mount Pleasant Fire and Rescue, who provided an extra engine and hazmat unit.

Foam was used to extinguish the fire, which was contained to the back hoe.

The cause of this fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
