AWENDAW, SC (WCBD) The Awendaw Fire Department responded to five brush fires along Sewee Road Thursday morning.

Fire crews responded to the scene of Sewee Road between Flatfield Farm and Bull Island Road around 7:30 a.m.

The brush fires were quickly put out, however, Awendaw fire remain on scene for clean up.

According to the Awendaw Fire Department, it’s believed a vehicle dragging loose chains down the road likely caused the brush fires. They are reminding people to double check any chains when towing boats and trailers.

“With the dry conditions, it does not take much to start a fire,” said a spokesperson with the AMFD.
