Florence brings uptick in hardware store sales

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Royall Ace Hardware in Mount Pleasant is getting ready for two storms, Florence and a storm of customers.

“We don’t want an air of panic, we’re just putting it out there. We are a store that sells a lot of the supplies that you’re going to need… we’re just making things ready and ordering extras just in case,” said Rob Kimzey, store manager.

Not too long after a State of Emergency was issued in South Carolina, business at this hardware store jumped. People looking for the essentials like batteries and sandbag, all just in case.

You can find a lot of what you need at local hardware stores. Plenty have employees who can tell you what is a good idea to have.

“Chlorine. I think chlorine is a good thing to have. If you lose power you need water and you need clean water. It’s a good way to keep things clean and that sort of thing,” Kimzey said.

Some other items you might want to have handy: coolers, tarps, and gas containers.

Another thing to do while you still have time, check your windows. Make sure that you have everything you need to board them up.

“Another thing is the fasteners. Make sure that your fasteners are accessible. Some people do have the panels, but then go outside to put the panels on the windows, but they don’t have the fasteners to screw the panels to the house,” said Kimzey.
