FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCBD) – Folly Beach Public Safety shared some sad news after a deceased dolphin was found on the beach over the weekend.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of W. Ashley Street just before 3:00 p.m. Sunday in reference to a beached dolphin in distress.
Upon arrival, officers said the dolphin had already died and made contact with several wildlife agencies.
A marine stranding technician told the officers she was unable to retrieve the dolphin at that time and directed them to place it in a bag to be picked up on the following day.
The officers followed those instructions and sealed the dolphin for retrieval.
There is no word what caused the dolphin to become beached or whether it was a calf.
