WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCBD) – The visitation service for the late Cooper River Bridge Run director, Julian Smith is underway in West Ashley.
Smith is someone who has touched many lives and that has been evident today.
Within the last hour, several people have been seen walking into the James A. McAlister Funeral Home to attend Smith’s visitation.
He passed away last Friday after battling brain cancer.
Smith dedicated his life to helping others whether it was while working at the Student Wellness Center at MUSC or directing the Cooper River Bridge Run.
In fact, he served as the director for the Bridge Run for 25 years.
His bridge run family says this year they are honoring him in the best way they know how.
“He liked to keep things, you know, ‘focused on the race, focused on the race, not on me.’ So, we’re going to honor that and we’re going to focus on the race and put on a great event for him,” said deputy race director.
His visitation ran until 4:00 p.m., but a celebration of his life begins at 6:00 p.m. at Hibernian Hall.
