NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Funeral arrangements have been set for the North Charleston Police Department K9 officer killed in a suspected DUI crash on February 16.

The service will be held Friday, February 23 at 2 p.m. at the Festival Center at New Springs Church on Ashley Phosphate & Dorchester Road.

The DUI crash happened on US 52 at Gumwood Road on February 16.

Troopers say the driver of a Chevy Yukon, later identified as Richard Joseph Shore, Jr., tried to make a left turn on Rivers Avenue and was struck by Brandon VanAusdal, driving a North Charleston Police Department Tahoe.

Shore was transported to a local hospital and later charged with felony driving under the influence.

VanAusdal was hospitalized with serious injuries. NCPD K9 officer Mojo died at the scene. “Officer VanAusdal has been released from the hospital and continues to recover,” according to North Charleston Police.

“Please keep Officer VanAusdal and his family in your thoughts and prayers,” authorities added.
