PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – An arrest warrant has been issued for a man accused of leading police on a chase in Georgetown County.
Pawleys Island Police obtained an arrest warrant for 19-year-old Henry James Blake Jr., for receiving stolen goods greater than $2,000 but less than $10,000.
According to Pawleys Island Chief of Police Michael Fanning, police on Wednesday were alerted by their Automated License Plate Reader camera that a vehicle with a stolen SC tag had come on the island a few minutes after 5PM.
At approximately 9:10 PM, an officer on patrol observed the vehicle at the public beach access at the south end of Springs Ave. The vehicle was occupied by a man and woman. The officer began questioning the man in the driver’s seat. Suddenly, the man pulled out of the beach access.
The officer advised the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office by radio of the situation, and a deputy spotted the car on South Causeway Rd. Deputies deployed “stop sticks”, and the vehicle struck the sticks but continued to flee. Officers lost visual contact of the vehicle.
As they were searching the area, an anonymous caller advised that a suspicious vehicle had been left on Ferguson Drive.
Deputies located the ditched vehicle without anyone inside.
Officers determined that the vehicle was reported stolen by the Horry County PD, and the license tag was stolen reported stolen by the Georgetown City PD.
An investigation is ongoing.
