Teen apprehended in Georgetown County in connection with a missing person case

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office investigators have charged a teen in connection with a missing person case.

Authorities have charged Theophilus Xavier Berry, 19, with Murder, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Weapon During Commission of a Violent Crime in connection with a missing person case. 

On Tuesday, May 21, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person. An 18-year-old Ja’Quan Collins of Georgetown, S.C., according to officials.

The case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division and investigators began collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.  Through an extensive investigation, it was determined that Collins was likely the victim of a homicide, according to Public Information Officer Jason Lesley.
 
On Friday, May 24, in conjunction with the investigation, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office took Berry, a resident of Maryville, into custody.  
 
The investigation is ongoing.
