With a library card, people can get access to so much more than hardbacks and paperbacks. CCPL has tens of thousands of ebooks and audiobooks, digital magazines, research publications and journals, programs for kids, teens, and adults, movie nights and writing seminars, and even telescopes. There’s something for everyone.
A library card is the perfect tool to help students learn outside of the classroom. A recent study (https://www.expandinglearning.org/sites/default/files/em_articles/6_creatingtherecent.pdf) shows students spend only one out of six waking hours at school, but the library gives everyone an opportunity to extend that learning into nights, weekend, and holiday breaks.
For someone looking to make a career change, the library has resources to help write a resume, find a new job, learn computer skills, start a small business, and pursue certifications and degrees. We have a job resources center at our Otranto Road branch, a business resource center at the Main Library, and Tech Team classes happening across the system.
And it’s all free for residents of Charleston County.
Also, a reminder that the Human Library series kicks off on September 15th. The Johns Island Branch hosts the candid discussions with different member of our community who are stigmatized or marginalized. The first installment is with Bakemayi Mufuta, a refuge from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
