How to host a Kentucky Derby party

Local News

Start with letting your guests know the attire.

Ladies, hats are a must. For men, you have to wear a bowtie.

When your guests arrive, greet them with a cocktail. If you didn’t know. the mint julep is the official cocktail of the Kentucky Derby.

Don’t know how to make one? Not a problem.

1. Start with a dash of simple syrup
2. Add some mint leaves
3. A dash of soda water
4. Lots of crushed ice
5. Pour your bourbon over the ice
6. Garnish with a mint leaf

And of course, your guests will be hungry!

For your derby-inspired party dishes, stick with southern eats like pimento cheese, southern cheezy gritz, and you can throw in some make-your-own pulled pork sliders.

To finish off your party, give guests a dessert to remember. Apple cranberry pies are delicious, as is any chocolate or cheesecake.
