How to Tackle Spring Cleaning

Local News

Mount Pleasant, S.C. (WCBD)- Spring is right around the corner and you know what that means? It’s time for a good spring cleaning!

While this is a dreaded time for many, one professional organizer says cleaning doesn’t have to be complicated. Amy Kay believes the trick is to make your home feel like spring.

To do this, you’ll have to do more than just clean the surface. If you haven’t done a deep cleaning in a while, Kay recommends budgeting four hours per weekend to get organized. She says, “If you walk into you home and still see coats and scarves and boots and sweaters and all that layer of winter, you aren’t feeling that energized emotion that you do when you’re outside”.

When putting away winter gear, Kay says to assess what still fits. If you’ll wear it next year, place the item in a bin and store it away. If the item is too small or you don’t think you’ll wear it, place it in a bag to donate. You can click here for some local organizations.

Kay goes on to explain, “There’s no reason to clutter your closet with clothes for 8 months that you aren’t going to wear. Your closet should be empty if you’ve taken everything out and that’s the time to clean it and that will remove dust and allergens that have built up and when it put it back it will have that extra sparkle that makes you feel amazing”.
