Human remains found during renovations at Gilliard Center date back to 1700s

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A lecture on human remains found during the 2013 construction of the Gaillard Center in downtown Charleston will take place Wednesday.

DNA analysis on 36 of those remains from their grave sites are believed to belong to Africans and African Americans from the 1700s.

Wednesday’s lecture begins at noon in the College of Charleston’s Robert Scott Small building.
