Hundreds attend Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Hundreds of people lined the streets of downtown Charleston today to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

It was an exciting atmosphere along King Street where a number of people said they were just excited to be able to celebrate a number of things Dr. King stood for.

“He was the man that was all about peace,” said one person who was enjoying the parade downtown.

“I love what happened over 60 years ago because the dreams have come to pass,” said another.

“Makes me feel happy, makes me feel like we’re going on, we’re not going back. We’re going on, with the help of the Lord,” said another.

One person said, “He preached love and acceptance and understanding. My son has autism and so we are big proponents of making sure that everybody loves each other unconditionally and accept people for who they are.”

“Because of his love for everybody, not just black not just white, he had love in his heart for everybody and we all should have love in our heart toward one another God bless.”

It was a great time had by everyone who showed up at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Charleston.
