Increased security in place at Berkeley High School following social media threat

Local News

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – Leaders with the Berkeley County School District say students and parents should be aware of an increased presence of law enforcement on Berkeley High School’s campus Monday due to an anonymous threat circulating on social media.

District officials over the weekend said they were made aware of a threatening message received by a student that attends Berkeley High School, but did not reveal any information about that message.

Law enforcement and the Berkeley County School District Safety and Security team are working closely together to address this matter and identify the source of that anonymous threat. Therefore, increase security will be in place at the school Monday.

“We take all matters concerning student and school safety seriously, and we appreciate those who are reporting these concerns and helping to keep schools safe,” the district said on Facebook.  “We also appreciate the immediate response of law enforcement and their commitment to ensuring our schools remain safe learning environments.”
