CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Westbound lanes on Interstate 26 have reopened after they were shut down for hours on Wednesday morning, following a fatal collision.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash occured around 1:45 a.m., near mile marker 207, when a 2019 Dodge Charger rear-ended a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Dodge Charger then ran off the road and into the woods.
Two passenges in the Dodge Charger were killed. Both drivers were taken to a local hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
Traffic was being detoured off the interstate at Exit 209, on to the US 52 Connector. The South Carolina Highway Patrol canceled the detour around 9 a.m.
