James Island man charged with Murder

UPDATE: Dedric Middleton is now charged with murder after the woman police say he shot died on Monday, Sept. 17.

On Saturday, September 15th, just before 12:30pm, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting in the area of Greenhill Road on James Island. 

Deputies arrived at 1097 Greenhill Road to find a female at the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest.  She was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. 

Detectives responded to the scene and canvassed the neighborhood for evidence and witnesses. With the help of the Greenhill community, detectives were able to identify a suspect.  He was found at another home on Greenhill Road and taken into custody without incident. 

Detectives and forensic investigators are working to determine a motive behind this shooting.  They know that the victim and the suspect are acquaintances to each other, although the extent of their relationship is yet to be determined.  The victim is still in serious condition.

Dedric Middleton was charged with:
1. Attempted Murder
2. Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime
