CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD)- The man accused of kidnapping a 4-year old girl from her Johns Island home in February pled guilty to all counts contained in a three count federal indictment.

The U.S. attorney’s office says Thomas Lawton Evans Jr., 37, of Boiling Springs followed a family into their Johns Island home in February of  2018.

Evans assaulted a woman and kidnapped her four-year-old daughter.

Evans then took the child to Alabama. She was recovered by the Riverside Police Department and returned to her family.

Evans was arrested later the same day in Jackson, Mississippi, after a police pursuit.

He faces up to 30 years to life imprisonment on the charges.

Evans, who is also awaiting trial on state charges will be sentenced in federal court at a later date.

The FBI and the Charleston Police Department cooperated in the investigation.
