Joint Base Charleston to conduct anti-terrorism and force protection exercise

Local News

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Join Base Charleston will be conducting an anti-terrorism and force protection exercise beginning Monday.

The exercise is designed to enhance the readiness of Join Base Charleston security forces and ensure seamless interoperability among the commands, services and agency partners.

Base leaders say the operation is not in response to any specific threat, but they say it is a regularly scheduled event.

Area residents near the JB Charleston Air Base and Naval Weapons Station may see increased military activity through the duration of the operation – which is expected to continue through February 14th.

Leaders say possible traffic and pedestrian congestion can be expected at times because of the exercise.

“Measures have been taken to minimize disruption within local communities and to normal base operations. However, there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around bases or delays in base access,” leaders with Joint Base Charleston’s Public Affairs office in an email.

We’re told advanced coordination has taken place with local law enforcement agencies and first responders.
