Lanes reopened following fatal crash on I-26 westbound

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol says two people are dead following an overnight crash on Interstate 26.

Troopers say the crash involved two vehicles near mile marker 207 on the westbound side of the interstate.

The accident happened when a 2019 Dodge Charger rear-ended a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee, causing the Dodge Charger to run off the road and into the woods.

Two passengers in the Dodge Charger were killed. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

The westbound lanes of I-26 were closed for hours while troopers investigated teh accident. Traffic was detoured at Exit 209. The lanes reopened around 9 a.m.
