CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Department of Transportation will temporarily close a southbound lane of the Ravenel Bridge this week to conduct cable safety inspections.

DOT officials say the closures will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. There will be additional inspections next Monday through Thursday, also between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Crews will set up barricades and traffic diversions when they shut down the right-hand lane to perform the inspections.

DOT says these inspections are a critical part of bridge maintenance and help ensure safety.

Drivers are asked to use extreme caution when driving in that direction.
