CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Flu season is well underway and local hospitals are seeing an uptick in cases here in the Lowcountry.

Doctors at Roper St. Francis say they’ve had nearly 400 confirmed cases at their express-care facilities this month.

“We definitely have had a ride in flu numbers this past one-to-two weeks,” said Dr. Annette Anderson with Roper St. Francis Healthcare Express Care. “I think that’s probably due to one, it’s peak flu season and people are inside a lot more with this cold weather and they just tend to share germs.”

Just in the Lowcountry last year along there were nearly 25,000 flu cases and 60 deaths.
