COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCBD) – A Colleton County man was denied bond after police say he severely burned his wife on Thursday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, the woman who suffered the traumatic incident, was flown to the Atlanta Medical Center after receiving burns on about 50% of her body.
The woman’s daughter spoke with Sheriff R.A. Strickland and Captain Angela Stallings from the Atlanta hospital Friday morning and said her mother’s current condition was “stable but critical.”
Sheriff Strickland spoke with the Colleton County Medical Center and officials with the Criminal Investigations Unit and determined the incident was not an accident.
Investigators obtained evidence to further substantiate criminal activity and placed the victim’s husband, Craig Lewis, under arrest.
Lewis is being charged with attempted murder, domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and resisting arrest with officer injury.
“We ask the residents of Colleton County to come together and continue to pray for her to have strength in such a time of transgression,” said Sheriff R.A. Strickland on Friday.
Authorities said Lewis may face a charge of first-degree arson as well.
