NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A man has been arrested after authorities say he ran from a traffic stop, crashed his vehicle and hid in a woman’s bathroom near Otranto Road.

According to NCPD spokesman, Spencer Pryor, an officer was conducting a traffic stop on a driver who was speeding in the Deerpark community just before 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Pryor says the driver failed to stop and a brief pursuit ensued. During the chase, the suspect turned onto Salamander Driver and came to an abrupt stop.

But that’s when Pryor said the suspect placed his vehicle in reverse and struck the officer’s motorcycle.

As the suspect tried to flee once again, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a ditch and ran on foot.

K-9 units tracked the suspect to a residence along the 2800 block of Otranto Road and made contact with a resident who confirmed that an unknown male had just entered her home and was hiding in a rear bathroom.

Pryor said the suspect eventually surrendered to K-9 officers and was taken into custody without further incident.

Johnathan Colby Adkins, 34, of North Charleston was charged by CCSO deputies and transported to the Charleston County Detention Center.

Jail records show Adkins has been arrested for a number of crimes including, assault and battery, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possessing a stolen vehicle and several traffic violations.
