GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW/WCBD) – 23 people were hurt in a crash involving a Williamsburg County Transit bus Saturday Morning
The two-lane road with no shoulder leaves little room for driver error. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the car and the bus were traveling in opposite directions at the time of the crash. They believe that one of the vehicles crossed the center line causing the collision.
Due to the overwhelming number of people injured the accident was declared a mass casualty incident. The battalion chief from Georgetown County Fire was one of the first to respond to the scene. He stated that 22 people from the bus were taken to hospitals in Horry and Georgetown Counties for injuries.
The driver of the car experiencing the most severe injuries had to be airlifted to MUSC for treatment.
