Thinking about renting a scooter in Downtown Charleston? You may want to rethink the idea.

Jack O’Toole with the City of Charleston tells us on Tuesday night, the Council voted unanimously to ban motorized scooter rentals for one year. That year will give council time to figure out how to regulate them.

The ordinance says “to amend the Code of the City of Charleston, South Carolina, Chapter 19, to add a new Section 93 to prohibit the use and the rental of motor scooters on the public right-of-way and to provide authority to the Charleston Police Department or their designee to remove any unattended motor scooters left physically unattended on public property.”

You may have heard of a startup company, that has spread throughout the country, “Bird”, based in Los Angeles. Their scooters recently popped up in the City, and this ban passed around 2 weeks afterwards.
