Mount Pleasant teacher nominated for SC Teacher of the Year

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCBD) – State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman surprised an elementary school teacher with the news that she has been selected as one of 5 finalists for the South Carolina Teacher of the Year Award.

As one of the 5 finalists, Mamie P. Whitesides teacher Stephanie Haecherl got $10,000 during the surprise announcement Thursday and will go on to an interview with a team of expert judges.

The Teacher of The Year program celebrates excellence and strengthens the teaching force by honoring and recognizing exceptional teachers in the district, state and national level.
