MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) — It’s nothing new: Scammers hoping to get financial information or cash from unsuspecting victims.

Mt. Pleasant police want you to be on the lookout, and make sure you warn your friends and relatives to be prepared.

One scam going around targets senior citizens, and it targets their love for their family.

The scammer pretends to be a family member, someone like a grandchild, niece or nephew. They then say they’ve been arrested and need money to be bonded out.

To see how to spot one of these scams, and what to do if you get one of these calls, watch this video from Inspector Chip Googe with Mt. Pleasant police.
