MURRELLS INLET, SC (WCBD) – One person and a dog were killed during an early morning fire at a condo in Murrell’s Inlet.

Firefighters say it took nearly two hours for them to get the fire completely under control.

At 4:22 a.m., the call came in that building number 2 at the Allston House condos was on fire.

Once at the scene, went inside the building to attack the fire and search for anyone who may have been trapped inside, but the upstairs had collapsed onto the floor below.

Crews had to exit the building and began fighting the flames from outside.

Sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., the fire was finally under control.

First responders then discovered the body of one person and the body of a dog.

SLED was called to the scene and could be seen taking photos and looking at what appeared to be a gas line on the back of the home. But that was determined not to be the cause of the fire.

“With the collapse inside it is going to be really hard to pinpoint an exact location,’ said fire marshal Tom Zimpleman. “We don’t consider any foul play. We just think it’s an accidental fire as far as that cause; we may never know just because of the collapse that happened inside.”

No firefighters were injured during the fire.

The name of the person who died has not yet been released. The Georgetown County Coroner’s Office said they should have a confirmed identity by Wednesday.
