NCPD: 6-year old boy finds handgun, discharged it, striking 1-year-old brother

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – At about 9 a.m.  February 23rd, Officers responded to a shooting incident at a residence in the 2800 block of O’Brien St.  

North Charleston Police Investigators have charged 37-year-old Redante Young, the male subject who brought the gun into the residence, with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Violent Felon. 

Young is a cousin to the victim.

Public Information Officer Spencer Pryor stated that once officers were on scene, they located a 1-year old male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to MUSC. 

During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the victim and his 6-year old brother were in the room when the 6-year old discovered a firearm and discharged it, striking the victim, Pryor added.

The investigation is ongoing and any updates will be forwarded when available.
