CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A new Roper emergency room will open Wednesday in the Lowcountry, days after the old one closed in North Charleston.
This new 24-hour Roper Hospital Diagnostics and ER – Northwoods is less than a mile from the old facility. The new spot, now located at 7832 Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, features a much larger space and in less of a flood-prone area.
The old facility was forced to close twice due to flooding issues back in 2015 and 2016. Both times were for more than 60 days.
This $4.8 million dollar, 12-thousand square foot facility will feature ten exam rooms. It will offer outpatient diagnostics, CT scans, x-ray scans, and over the course of the next three years has the potential to add four new exam rooms.
“The rooms are set up as I said more state of the art equipment that we have that we were not able to accommodate in the old building,” ER nurse Brenda Wilson said.
The new Roper Hospital Diagnostics and ER – Northwoods is expected to open Wednesday, following a final inspection by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control which will begin at 9:30 a.m.
