CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Today Show’s Kathie Lee Gifford made her way to the Lowcountry Thursday ahead of the Charleston Wine and Food Festival.

Gifford, Co-anchor of Kathie Lee and Hoda, the fourth hour show on the Today Show, sat along side the Today’s Show Meteorologist Al Rocker to broadcast their show at the Pineapple Fountain in Waterfront Park talking all things wine and food.

Right before their live broadcast, Gifford sat down with News 2’s Deanne Roberts for a one-on-one interview where they talked all things Charleston, food, wine and her career.

Gifford said that she was happy to be back in Charleston, as this is the second time the Today Show hosted the Wine and Food Festival. She said the city is one of the most enchanting and most adorable towns in the country.

“People have been careful to maintain it [Charleston],” Gifford said. ” You don’t see some high rise next to a charming church and it’s just like coming back in time. We’ve done the show from here one time before and we didn’t want to leave.”

This time around, Gifford said she is looking forward to several things, including hosting the Today Show with Al Roker.

“I’ve never hosted with Al before in the 11 years that I’ve been at the Today Show, so we will have a good time,” Gifford said.

Her own wine, Gifft Wine, is being featured during the festival.

“My own line of wines, Gifft wines, will be featured and I’ll say hello to some people and let them have a taste of the best wine in the world,” she said.

Above all, she said she is excited to meet people.

“I’m just excited to people with the people because they are great here,” she said.

Gifford traveled more than 700 miles from Manhattan, NY to the Holy City to spend one of her last Fridays as a host for Today in the Lowcountry.

“Take me through some of the best times you’ve had at the today show, what you will miss the most and what’s next?” asked News 2’s Deanne Roberts.

“I have nothing holding me in New York anymore,” Gifford answered. “I’m ready for a brand new season in my life, I’m writing movies, starring in movies, producing movies, it’s what I’ve wanted to do my whole life, so you run out of time, tick-tok.”

“You came back after Regis and Kathie Lee, is there any possible chance you’d return as a teleivion host?” Roberts asked.

“I have one thing in the works but it’s not like anything I’ve done before, that’s all I can say, it would be a lot of fun and out of Nashville,” she said.

Speaking of Nashville, Kathie Lee and Hoda hosted a contest where viewers could send in a 60 sec. video expressing why they should get two free tickets to come to the Wine and Food Festival with Kathie Lee. A young woman named Jenny won the contest and won Kathie Lee and Hoda over.

Kathie Lee loved Jenny’s singing so much, she told her to come to her hotel room when she landed in Charleston so that they could make a song together, and that’s exactly what happened.

“I landed and went right to the hotel, she showed up with her guitar, she had a little idea for a song, we wrote it in like 15 minutes and she’s going to sing it,” Gifford said.

Jenny joined Kathie Lee and Al Roker on stage during their live broadcast Friday and sang the song she and Kathie Lee wrote the night prior.

With exactly four weeks left of Kathie Lee being on the Today Show, she is going out with a bang as she embarks on her new journey, and that includes living it up at the Charleston Wine and Food Festival.

“There will be some wine sipped today, you can count on me for that,” Gifford said.”
